Oregon’s Beach Towns
If you’re visiting Portland you better make sure you make the time to visit one of the state’s incredible seaside communities running along Highway 101. With almost 30 to choose from we know you’re bound to find one that suits your fancy whether it’s an isolated drift-wood swept shore or a perfect vantage point for whale watching, the Oregon coast has it all. Here are a few of our favorites.Seaside is known for its wide and sandy beaches that are perfect for any number of activities from low rider beach bikes and wave watching to beach volleyball and kite flying, the coastal experience at Seaside has a lot to offer. It has a 1.8 mile promenade along the ocean and the area dates as far back as the 1800s.Coos Bay is located between the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area on the North and Shore Acres State Park on the South. How’s that for nice neighbors? The area offers a selection of shopping, entertainment, and dining experiences as well as a renovated downtown area. Coos Bay has been the commercial center of Oregon’s southern coast since its earliest days.Depoe Bay is known as the “Whale Watching Capital of the Oregon Coast” and rightfully so since there is a resident pod of grey whales which makes Depoe Bay their home from March through December each year. Depot Bay has a huge sea wall that runs the length of the downtown vicinity which makes for great sightseeing while shopping or dining along its faade.Newport has been welcoming visitors to the area since the late 1800′s and encompasses incredible natural beauty as it nestles between the Coast Mountains, the Pacific Ocean and Yaquina Bay. This town has it all: hot sea baths, taffy stores, agate shops, galleries, book stores, restaurants, shopping and lodging (with some incredible views!).So there you have four of the many scenic destinations that await you. We suggest you try to get to as many as you can before you decide which one is your favorite since each offers its own charm and winning ways.
